The close connection between motorsport and TAG Heuer came about shortly after Techniques d'Avant Garde took over Heuer and eventually became TAG Heuer. The decision to enter into a partnership between Formula 1 and various icons of the sport was fundamentally characterised by success. To this day, the TAG Heuer Formula 1 is one of the company's most successful models.
TAG Heuer Formula 1 made its first appearance in 1986, when Techniques d'Avant Garde, a leading manufacturer of high-tech components for aviation and racing cars, had just been renamed TAG Heuer and laid the foundations for its success story. A bond developed between the brand and motorsport that continues to this day. TAG Heuer's high profile was not only due to its entry into Formula 1, but also to its collaboration with legends such as Juan Manuel Fangio and Ayrton Senna. In addition to these sporting icons, it was also Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso who brought Tag Heuer further into the spotlight.
The TAG Heuer Formula 1 is one of the brand's best-known models. Inspired by the Heuer Easy Rider from the 1970s, a watch was developed with a case made of synthetic resin and bold colours to appeal to a younger audience in particular.
In its further development, TAG Heuer took an unconventional approach, as in 1989, when the TAG Heuer Formula 1 was launched with a traditional 3-dial chronograph and a fascinating movement construction - equipped with a quartz movement at the bottom and a mechanical layer.
After a short break between 2000 and 2004, new TAG Heuer Formula 1 models were launched, further promoting the upmarket image. In 2007, the first ladies' collection was released, which was also very well received.
Today, the TAG Heuer Formula 1 belongs to the high-end segment of luxury watches and impresses above all with its sophisticated design.
TAG Heuer also regularly showed particular sensitivity when it came to developing a special collection. The TAG Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph Max Verstappen Special Edition 2018 was designed by the racing driver himself and limited to 1,300 pieces. The same applies to the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Red Bull Racing Special Edition or the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Fragment by Fujiwara.
To this day, the workmanship and design of the TAG Heuer Formula 1 is characterised by its distinctive details. The dial of the watch was designed in the style of the dashboard of a racing car. Added to this is an elegant realisation of loving finesse such as racing stripes or other classic racing attributes.
Looking back is always worthwhile with a model like the Formula 1, which is why TAG Heuer is reviving the colourful classic from 1986. In collaboration with lifestyle brand Kith, there will be a limited edition of the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Series 1 in ten colour variants.
If you have fallen in love with a TAG Heuer Formula 1, you can also buy it second-hand. In the luxury watch segment, the price is still very affordable and starts at just over €1,000. Depending on the edition and colour, the price can also reach 3,500 euros. Rare and limited edition models of the TAG Heuer Formula 1 can of course also command higher prices.
