Probably the best-known watch in the luxury watch segment is the Rolex Submariner. It is more recognisable than almost any other watch and enjoys extremely high demand. Whether as a vintage model or the latest version - the Rolex Submariner has set standards and has become a coveted collector's item. Buying this special watch can prove to be an excellent investment.
When Rolex launched the first Submariner on the market in 1953, nobody could have imagined the success story it would become. Originally, the watch was intended as the ideal support for professional divers, who could use the Submariner without restriction even at depths of up to 100 metres thanks to the large luminescent hands, the rotating bezel and the high water resistance. Nowadays, depths of up to 300 metres are no problem for the famous diver's watch. The characteristic appearance of the Rolex Submariner has certainly contributed to the fact that a classic diver's watch has become a legendary timepiece.
Despite the high standards of design and appearance, Rolex did not lose sight of functionality in the decades that followed. The Cerachrom dial, made of hard, corrosion-resistant ceramic, proves to be particularly scratch-resistant, UV-resistant and insensitive to chlorine and seawater. The rotating bezel of the Submariner with its engraved 60-minute graduation is used to accurately read the dive time. The water resistance of the modern versions of the Rolex Submariner is up to 300 metres. The Triplock winding crown with a triple sealing system protects the watch not only from water, but also from dust and small particles.
If you take a closer look at the different variants and models of the Rolex Submariner, you will quickly realise that the Swiss watch manufacturer has been quite creative in this respect over the past decades. There are now various models on the market that differ in certain characteristics.
The price of a Rolex Submariner is very difficult to determine straight away. The vintage models and special editions in particular are in high demand and achieve very high prices when sold. Manufactures from the 1950s and 1960s with the reference numbers 5512 and 5513 are in high demand. The price range here is between 14,000 and 35,000 euros. A gold Submariner Date with a blue or black dial can cost over 40,000 euros. The various versions of the Rolex Submariner are not completely unaffordable. The first models can be purchased from just under 8,000 euros, with almost every one of these watches offering the prospect of a significant increase in value.
Exceptional models of the Rolex Submariner, such as the 5513 from the 1973 James Bond film "Live and Let Die", were auctioned at Christie's in 2015 for the impressive price of 340,000 euros.
