In 1963, the Cosmograph Daytona was presented to the general public as an outstanding work of watchmaking art. It was named after the legendary race track in Florida, which was known for its spectacular car races. The reputation that preceded Daytona was quickly transferred to the eponymous Rolex watch. The extraordinary watch earned an excellent reputation early on thanks to its sophisticated design and extensive functions. Precision was a fundamental requirement and one that the manufacturer itself demanded of the watch. Initially equipped with a Valjoux movement, an adaptation was made in 1988. The world's first high-frequency chronograph movement with automatic winding was a revolution on the watch market and once again set new standards. Further improvements were integrated in 2020 and 2023, making the Rolex Daytona a reliable companion even under the most demanding conditions.
The appearance of the Rolex Daytona has contributed significantly to its special status among luxury watches. The classic features of the watch are the bezel, the minute track and the three totalisers, which in turn come into their own in combination with the dial. In the meantime, the classic white dial and the black totalisers have also undergone colour changes, but the vintage versions of the Rolex Daytona in particular have a high collector's value.
