Breitling Superocean
Breitling and diving watches have always been closely associated. The Swiss watch manufacturer launched the Superocean in 1957, a watch with corresponding characteristics that has retained its status to this day. With the Breitling Superocean Héritage, a special tribute model in the design of the 1950s has been released to commemorate the fascinating history of this watch.
History of the Breitling Superocean
Breitling can look back on a long company history. It was Léon Breitling who laid the foundations for this extraordinary success story back in 1884 with his first atelier at Place Neuve 1 in Saint-Imier. The Chronomat and Navitimer pilot's chronographs were initially the watches that made Breitling famous far beyond the country's borders and contributed to its growth.
In 1957, it was the Breitling Superocean that opened a new chapter. For the first time, a diver's watch with a water resistance of 200 metres was presented. A sensational value for the time, and even today it would more than satisfy most divers in terms of pure utility.
Thanks to its sophisticated design, the Breitling Superocean did not take the diving world by storm. More and more watch enthusiasts and collectors have become enthusiastic about this reliable and stylish luxury watch.
Models & versions of the Breitling Superocean
The modern versions of the Breitling Superocean are available in various designs and models that are accentuated in different colours, for example. Since 2022, lovers of this watch can look forward to the case colours bronze and rose gold, for example, which are available alongside the classic stainless steel. However, Breitling has decided to remove the titanium version from the range from this point onwards, thereby increasing its collector's value.
Basically, those interested can choose between the following versions available on the market.
- Superocean 42
- Superocean 44
- Superocean Chronograph II
- Superocean Chronograph M2000
- Superocean Chronograph Steelfish
The colour spectrum in which the Breitling Superocean can now be purchased is also interesting. The deep blue dial is particularly stylish and, in keeping with its name, enjoys great popularity. The black dial looks very classy, while the orange version is more modern and upbeat. Yellow and turquoise are also very eye-catching and something for people who like to draw attention to themselves.
Superocean Héritage in vintage look
The watch world was thrilled by the Superocean Héritage, which Breitling presented in 2007 as an homage to the original Superocean. Fitted with a braided steel bracelet, this luxury watch was deliberately reduced to its original functionality and design. Manufactured with a self-winding mechanical movement, these watches are also impressively water-resistant to 200 metres. 50 years after its first presentation, Breitling has pulled off another coup with the Héritage in a vintage look.
Breitling Superocean: price in an acceptable range
The marvellous thing about the Breitling Superocean is probably the price. Current pre-owned versions of this beautiful and functional watch can be purchased for between 1,800 and 3,000. Of course, the price segment is also higher for special models and unusual designs. For a Heritage 57 Special Edition II Rainbow, more than 5,000 euros must be budgeted, but in return buyers receive an unusual model with a guaranteed increase in value over the coming years.
